Some people with locs refrain from participating in certain activities (exercising, outdoor sports, grilling BBQ, etc.) in order to prolong their wash day. Having locs should not prevent you from participating in activities you enjoy. In fact, locs should make it easier! Listed below are 6 of our favorite ingredients used to prolong wash day by getting rid of odors caused by sweat, smoke, and etc.
Aloe Vera Juice: Aloe vera juice moisturizes, cleanses and conditions your locs /scalp. Its nutrients literally put the "life" back in your locs while preventing dandruff and buildup.
Coconut Oil: Dandruff is caused by 3 main sources (fungi, bacteria, and dry scalp). Coconut oil prevents and treats dandruff caused by fungi and bacteria with its antimicrobial properties. Further, it provides moisture to dryness which alleviates dandruff caused by dry scalp. (Caution: too much coconut oil can potentially cause buildup. Do not use a lot).
Ginseng: Ginseng is an herbal plant that contains an anti-bacterial compound called Saponin. It treats and prevents dandruff by cleansing the scalp, unclogging follicles, and getting rid of build-up.
Lavender: In addition to providing a delightful & calming scent, lavender fights dandruff and adds moisture to your locs.
Green Tea: Green tea is extremely nourishing! It naturally contains vitamins A, E, and C, zinc, selenium, chromium, and manganese and treats ailments, like dandruff, by improving the health of your scalp.
Peppermint Essential Oil: In addition to providing a mood-elevating & relaxing scent, peppermint essential oil has antiseptic and antimicrobial properties that fight dandruff caused by fungi. It soothes an itchy scalp, eliminates dandruff, and keeps your locs smelling delightful!
